Darrell ,police positive Special

You seem to Know What your talking about,the gun is very impressive to fire,it makes one hell of a bang,anyone who thinks the gun is useless for police work has never fired it,I wouldn't want to be on the reaseaving end of that lead. You mentioned something about not fireing riffle loads in the handgun, I was under the impression that the handgun was designed for the riffle load. If not what is the diff erence bettween the two shells,beacuase I have 50 rounds of 100 grain riffel shells of which I've been useing.They seem to work and fit fine.

    If it's a .38 Special or .357 magnum, the handgun came first. There really were no rifles until Cowboy Action Shooting took off as a sport. Factory ammo for either is intended for use in a revolver. Very rarely will you see, factory ammo intended solely for rifles in these calibres. If you do it'll be sold in a 20 round box and it's definitely not good to shoot rifle ammo in a handgun.
    A Police Positive is a Colt revolver that was used for years by police departments. The police went to high capacity pistols after finding that the recruits they were getting had little or no firearm experience. It's easier to train a neophyte to use a pistol that it is a revolver.

    I was talking about the 32-20 handgun police positive speacial produced by colt.Darrell Mulroy a member seemed to know alot about the gun. Is it safe to fire any 32-20 load in this gun, I have been and have know broblems so far. What are tha main differences in the riffel load and the hand gun load if any?

    The .32-20 in the original load was HOT I think a 100 grain slug.
    But they also made RIFLE loadings in it where were not to be fired in a pistol. I think this confusion helped kill it off. In a defensive gun it would be close to a .30 Luger or such. In a six inch bbl I think it would come into it's own for longer range varmint shooting. Would love to see it's potential in a Thompson Contender for example. I haven't seen one for sale in YEARS..if priced right I'd love to tinker with one. Pure nostalgia, but I think the gun didn't get it's due from shooters. I recall being on a range when one was fired and it had a NASTY crack out of a 4 inch bbl. Ahhhh the good old days. It was offered by S&W, Colt and I think a few Eibars and just maybe Colt in their SA. This goes back a lot of years.
