hollow or full metal
my biggest fear is home invasion
down in south florida it's on the rise
and when ever i go ammo shopping
my favored gun shop always convinces me to buy
hollow pointed bullets explaining that in some cases
the invader was shot several times with FMJ's
and still either got away or was able to jump on his victim
the first night i'm loaded with hollows but the next day i always
change my load to full metal
am i playing a dangerous game
i mean that the hollow stay loaded for a little while
then i reload the mag. with f.m.j.

My initial reaction is that your gun shop guru is correct. However, one must ask, "What gun and caliber are you using?" Certainly in a "mouse gun" (.25, .32., .380) a hollow point would be preferable. In a larger caliber (.44, .45) at across the room ranges the difference would be less critical. And, why does daylight bring about an ammo change? A little more information and rationale, please. 0 -
Supposedly, hollowpoints have more stopping power because they create a larger wound channel. It's physics, so I would be inclined to believe it.
But why change to FMJ? Wouldn't you rather be as well-protected as possible no matter the time of day? I keep frangible ammo in my USP 24/7.

If you are in the Miami area, this isn't a "game". Your advice was good from your dealer and from the board. Go with the HP's. Sure, as Geb said, if you have a large enough piece, HP's become a non- issue (but I would still go with them).

Your last sentence(I'd rather see him crippled in prison) told me without full conviction in using a firearm in defence of yourself and your family, may very well give the perp the chance to shoot you with your own gun!

my uncle was killed in a home invasion robbery
in new york
even closer than that about ten years ago my wife
was involved in a home invasion where her then boyfriend
was murdered
and this type of crime is happining so often now
that you turn to an obsessive compulsive

I found by alternating hollow and FMJ_AP you get them coming and going My wife baught me a Case 688 Excavator so I would not have to dig by hand any more I have sence ran out of lifes little problems. My dad aways said if it don't fit get a Bigger Hammer0 -
prism, stick with the HP loads: (a) more shock damage, regardless of caliber . . . if you must defend yourself, you want to end the threat ASAP, none of this 'shoot to wound' stuff . . . it can result in you or your family members being injured or worse by the perp(s); (b) in any self defense scenario, but especially inside of your home, you do not wish the projectile to penetrate anything but the target . . . FMJ ammo (almost certainly you are speaking of .45 based on your other posts, but applies to other calibers as well) can pass right through a body and a wall when shooting at close range. 0 -
I would or do use hollow points but theres not much difference.

With any caliber, a HP potentially expands more creating a larger wound. This is more effective in stopping a perp. Whether he dies or ends up in prison or escapes is not the issue--what you want is to quickly stop the attack.

Use the HP all the time you have the pistol for Personal Protection. I don't understand why you would switch to the FMJ during the daytime. FMJ is good for shooting at the range because it's normally cheaper. Also if you have to shoot, it is to stop the person that you are in fear of. If this means that they are stopped dead so be it. You do not shoot to wound this is something for the movies only.
