Are you aware that the Smith&Wesson P99 is the exact same pistol only two-hundred dollars less?

Bubba, the P99 in 9mm is my pistol of choice at the momment, having replaced the SIG/Sauer P220-9mm in my heart. I have small hands so I appreciate the interchangable backstraps. There are factory hi-caps available but they will be expensive as well as any additional factory 10 shot magazines you may wish to purchase.

I've been very satisfied with mine, although I've yet to make a single LE sale; Glock, Beretta, and Sig/Sauer still have the import end of the market sewn up. S&W may have better luck with their SW99 version which, as RugerNiner says, is a lot less expensive.

I like the adjustible back straps for different sized grips. And I will leave it at that.Guns&Ammo first gave it a bad review. But since they have made some improvements.

    Best!!!

England bought 50,000 P99's for their Bobbies recently.

The only drawback that I have with the P99 is the rather unique trigger action. It was supposedly designed that way to help eliminate a 'stress fire' situation. They now have a new QA (Quick action series and the 990 which is DAO. Wonderful ergonomics, reliability and accuracy if you can get adjusted to the trigger.

My SW99 is light, and can be adjusted to fit your hand comfortably. It is also very accurate.

The design came out after 9-13-94, so there should be no "pre-ban" magazines. However, I see unrestricted Walther-brand 16-round magazines advertised for these pistols, so the magazines must be a pattern that existed before the ban date. This issue remains unexplained to me.

I believe it is New Jersey that intended to replace its H-K P7M8 pistols with the Smith/Walther P99, and the pistols were so bad that the contract was suspended or cancelled. Smith tried to fix them, and I do not know if the fix was made. As I recall, the H-K PRO board has had quite a bit on the subject.

I like the feel of the pistol, but do not like guns with no safety. The trigger is unusual as well.

The SW99 offers more safety features than the Glock, featuring a decocker for its internal hammer, something I never seen on an internal hammer guns before. The people I hear talking bad about them never owned one. It is a fine peice of art.

I did some research on this gun. The 16rd mags are used by German/Euro police issue. Not sure how we get them here. I'd sure like one.

Just how good is the S&W p99 compared to the Walther? I remember when the S*W Sigma's came out to compete with Glock. I bought a Glock as the sigma's were rather sucky (IMHO). I'm planning on buying a P99 in .40S&W ASAP,,, any ideas appreciated.
