hello I'm going elk hunting for the first time for
rosevelt Elk.I'm going to use my Remington model 7400 simi automatic rifle. the question is what bullet would you recomend.

30-06 is a fine elk cartidge. I would use a 165gr. or a 180gr bullet of sturdy construction, like a Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, Nosler Partition, or Fail Safe. Personally I use a 7mm pushing 160 gr Seirra handloads. The Sierras are not as sturdy as the above mentioned, but they work just fine. I have taken about a dozen bulls with them over the last five or six years.
I think that federal now loads sierra boattails for a 30-06. Its up to you, but go with at least a 165gr.

I have the same gun, good choice. If I were going pick I would go with Federal also. The Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Bearclaw 180 gr. would be a good choice. Just make sure it is NOT the High Energy kind. These were specifically not designed for semi-autos. I was also looking at the Federal Classic ammo Speer Hot-Cor SP 220 gr. This is designed for the larger animals like elk. Flat trajectory with 200% expansion/deep penetration. Just my opinions... 0 -
Just picked up a 7400 carbine. Tell me more about why Federal 180 H.E. is not suitable for this auto. I'll be disappointed if I can't find a functional load in the 180-200g 2700fps range from this 18.5inch barrel. I had figured the Fed. H.E. at 2900fps from a 24" test barrel would be just about there from the carbine.

I would recommend the 180 grain Swift Scirocco bullets for a 30-06. They are listed on the remington site and Remington hypes them up quite a bit. The people who I know that have used them swear by them. Good luck.
