So called "NIGHT VISION"

I seen these binoculars that say they are red lens night vision but then they say not real night vision.Why do they call them night vision?

  During WWII, M1 & M2 night vision scopes were mounted on the M1 carbine. These units used an infra-red spotlight mounted over a telescopic sight with a red lens. The infra-red wave length is not visible to the human eye, so these were, in effect, the first night vision units used by the US military.
  
  On the down side, if the enemy has a pair of glasses with red lenses, the shooter will be in deep trouble.
  
  So, the binoculars you were looking at are not usable as "night vision" glasses without an infra-red spotlight.
