Wards Hercules 16 guage
i am looking for info on a Wards Hercules single shot 16 guage in fair condtion. serial # is 58118D. on one side of barrel is stamped proof tested 16 guage and on others side selected forged steel. i was told they were sold by sears but that is all i know. any info would be greatly appreciated.escpecially value.

Wards was sold by Montgomery Ward not sears. Most of the crossover lists show the model numbers, not names. Does the shotgun have a model number on it? This shot gun will have been built by Stevens or some manufacturer and sold under the Wards name. These models always trade for less than the underlying model with the manufacturers name, and are sold as shooters as there is no real collector market. 0 -
From: "Official Guide to Gunmarks", David Byron, "Hercules-Tradename used by Montgomery Ward & Co. on arms made by Iver Johnson." This is probably the "Champion" model; and as such, in only fair condition, is worth $35-$50. 0 -
the hercules brand shotguns sold by wards were not manufactured by iver johnson's arms & cycle works they were manufactured by j.stevens arms & tool co.
the iver johnson's arms & cycle works double barrel shotgun was marked as the "hercules grade" and to my knowledge never sold through mail order only through authorized iver johnson's arms & cycle works dealers and the iver johnson sporting goods retail store.
