CURIOUS ABOUT DOUBLE STAMPED GUN
#166-81xxx
STURM RUGER & CO INC SOUTHPORT,CONN USA --- The whole works is double stamped on the receiver.
Is this rare for Ruger guns ?
Does it up the value ? I've owned it two years, copied the SN(which is clean stamped) when I bought it but just now noticed the double stamping.
Own two others, all in .223, another #166 NIB - & an older #181-88xxx that's a shooter, had it since 1980.
Just curious.

Sounds unusual to me--I've never seen one. You should contact the Ruger Collector's Association, Inc., P.O. Box 240, Greens Farms, CT 06436 and run it by them. 0 -

I have a Ruger 10/22 that has two sets of serial numbers....on the left side of the receiver 230-55XXX and on the right side FBI-005XX...only thing I can figure out it was a limited special order production run. 0 -

UPDATE
Joined the folks at the Ruger forum but didn't find out much. Today I spoke with Shirley Lemieux at the Ruger factory. She says they know of no other Ruger getting past their inspectors, AND wanted me to ship it to them for a looksee. I declined, but will take photos tomorrow and post it at outdoortexasadventures.com late Tuesday afternoon.0 -
Texas, In spite of what ruger says some very odd guns have left their factory. They have always been able to sell every thing they make, so some guns can very unusual. It usually adds very little to the value but you still have a one of a kind Ruger. Shoot it and enjoy it.

Good thinking not to send it in. I am betting they would have found a serious defect in the rifle and sent you a new one.
I knew a guy who ran a cop shop and handled lots of Smith & Wessons. He had a nice collection of factory error guns that he scabbed out of the shop for himself. I don't know if they are especially valuable but they are different.

Piadea is right that Ruger doesn't always overly check they're guns before they leave the factory(or they do and don't mind little things getting out). I've seen a few weirdos come out of the factory. Do you have any plans for it(keep as an oddball, shoot it)? Would you consider sale?0 -

I have always been a guy that enjoys shooting and looking at my guns. Few of my toys haven't been abused as in crawling around in the dirt and mud. A bit of rust, a scratch or small ding doesn't offend me.
Too, most of my collection isn't high dollar stuff although I own quite a few.
Mostly Rugers, and every 22 type I can get my hands on.
But yes, I would sell. If !
I've already had one request to let them in on the bid, but truthfully it would really take the right price and I don't know what that is myself. Since I really enjoy the unusual stuff, it will be hard to turn loose of.
Besides, you guys are enjoying the photos now that I have them at this site. Makes me feel like part of the family.0
