Savage .32 Auto
I inherited this WWII era pistol from my father and have been trying to shoot it but am having some trouble. I have cleaned it several times, yet it doesn't cycle successfully, it always falls short and jams on an empty casing.
I've used regular over the counter ammo, and wonder if I should break it ALL the way down and clean it (it really doesn't appear all that dirty) or if I should look for some particular ammo. Any opinions are welcome.

It can be your ammo but more than likely it is your springs. These are fairly old springs and may be significantly underpowered. It is hard to tell someone how to change springs in a semi-auto unless they are fairly experienced in takedown. Your best bet would be to call a good pistolsmith and see what he recommends. Spring kits as well as individual springs are available through Brownells. So if you feel confident, you might want to attempt the takedown and replace your springs and give it a good cleaning and lube then re-assemble. E-mail me if you run into a snag.
