OT: use your guns or look at 'em?

i guess growin up i got used to having what i call KMART guns. hear me out. you can go to walmart, get a decent quality gun, a remington or mossberg shotgun or rifle and hunt with it. take it in the rain, scratch it a few times and you dont feel too awful...

OR

you can go to your custom shop get a nice weatherby in a magnum caliber that costs $45 a box of ammo, take it stand hunting for deer on clear crisp days and hang it on the wall as a beautiful gun.

my dad always had the mantle pieces while mine were used scratched and carried into gods country and beyond....

so what are your guns, lookers or users?

    I consider all me guns as fine useful tools.They don't get abused but they do get used.If I get a scratch here or there I pay it no mind.If the go bang when I pull the trigger and hit near were I want then the are doing their job.CW

    I keep all my guns nice and clean, as well as in protective cases. But they are functional, and I wouldn't be afraid to use them if I wanted ( or needed ) to. I keep them well oiled, so even when they undergo heavy use they tend to stay unscratched.
    Somebody handed me a chewed-up Sig the other day and I about turned blue.

    My guns reside in a safe at night but can ride in a pickup or tractor in the daytime!! There are some that I would hate to drop in a gravel road but that's the chance I take! If it's too "purty" to carry and hunt with then it' pretty much useless! And them Weatherbys was just overpriced, overrated, overadmired and for the most part "overbore" obnoxious behemoths!!! GHD

    Both with me.I both shoot and collect.About half on mine are new in the box.A few of the collectables are used,but worth to much to ever fire again.I probaly have enough shooters
    at this time.Constant back pain limits my shooting time.Most of my guns i have at least 2 of,so i don't have to shoot everyone of them.

    Well, if I can't shoot it and feel good about doing it, I don't need it. I am by no means a rich man so I cherish each and every one of my firearms. I look at them like I look at a nice big rollaway tool chest full of (snapon) tools. They look pretty nice but they work real well also as long as I don't abuse them and keep them maintained.
    Just my 2cents worth.

    Years ago I realized that I did not wish to collect firearms because (a) I don't have the budget & (b) the idea of keeping a piece unfired, or cringing every time it came out of the safe for fear it might be dropped / scratched was not the way I wanted to live. I have a few heirloom pieces, but otherwise they are working firearms. I take care of them to the best of my ability, but if they should be scratched, the bluing should wear thin, or whatever, so what? This is what happens when one uses a tool. If I want artwork, I'll buy a Monet (I wish!); if I want to collect something, a cartridge takes less space and has the same references, perhaps more.

    Mostly they are hunting peices. I have just a very few now too valuable one way or the other for shooting.
