Krinkov parts kit
Hi I got a krinkov parts kit from I friend of mine and I am planning to put it together. What receiver would be good for this project? And what do I need to do to make it legal. A friend of mine can take care of a short barrel problem by milling a fake silencer and permanently installing it to the barrel. Does any one know what are the thread diameters and the barrel size on krinkov. The other question is; do I need to permanently install the folding stock also to comply with the rules. Please feel free to give an opinion, and correct me if I am wrong.

Hello Mark, let me tell you right from the start that this is NOT a project for the at home hobbiest. This is going to take some SERIOUS 'smithing; not only to get this thing together, but to make it function and keep your butt out of prison. I've yet to see a home built example of a Krinkov actually finshed at home; at some point you are going to have to send it out for professional work.
Your first step is to secure a legal receiver. A good choice for this is the Ohio Ordnance Works universal AKM receiver. These are purpose made semi-auto, heat treated, and have the frame rails installed. They cost around $60 and you can call OOW @ 440-285-3481. These are stripped...no internals at all. You are going to have to install all of the parts as well as the barrel and trunnion block...after the barrel has been modified to legal length. This will be your first trip to the gun smith.
Getting that barrel up to legal length is going to involve some careful work. Attaching a fake supressor is a tricky issue- and by the way standard AK threading is 14X1 LH. If your friend makes the unit be damned sure that it is ONLY a fake and does not reduce the sound signature even slightly. You must also be sure that it does not act as a flash hidder as that is considered a banned item. Be sure that the bore diameter of you fake is as close as possible to the diameter of the bullet, you don't want any chance for gas expansion as that will cause the sound level to fall and you've just built a supressor; That will be a $200 NFA tax or prison- your choice.
When it comes time to install this fake, you have to be sure that it can NEVER be removed. This means either attaching it with a full fussion weld or using high tempurature silver solder. Don't even think about using industrial tread lockers (lock-tight) as the BATF will not allow their use on this type of project. Pro's use an alignment gauge to be sure that the unit is correctly attached and that the bullet will travel through the bore without obstruction- you don't want a round flying out through the side of your barrel extention. I hope your friend has the expertise to attach this correctly because as stated, once it is fixed into place, to be legal you'll have to cut it off to remove it for another try.
You can forget about the folding stock as that is a banned item as well. They are easy enough to modify into the fixed position- once again be sure that it is permanent. A good solid weld will be just fine. Once the entire thing is assembled and looks like a rifle you can bet that it won't work! These bad boys are very tricky to get to function correctly and that is the purpose of the Krinkov muzzel device! That not only works as a flash hider but helps provide the rifle action with the proper amount of pressure to make it fuction.
Someone is going to have to work on the action to get the rifle to work, if it can work at all, with your fake supressor.
There is SO MUCH MORE to this that I'm going to stop right here. Do you still want to attempt it? There are only a handful of people who can do this type of work and most won't even touch someones homemade project. My suggestion is to do what I've done: purchase a pre ban AK with a folding stock, attach a Krinkov brake to the muzzel and then call it quits. It is close enough for me! Best of luck.

offeror, now THAT is a good idea! Have someone else build the thing for him or just go out and purchase one. It seems that everyone wants to (or hopes to) build these things themselves. Just pay the money and let a pro do the job while you sit back and relax! I could not tell from the photo whether or not that was a pistol or a short barreled rifle. It looks like it may be a pistol. The SBR is out because he said he needed a fake supressor to keep him legal. Where are you marek? Let us know what you think. And by the way, K-VAR in Las Vegas is selling Bulgarian Krinkov kits for $399.

Thanks for the reply and hones advise. Unfortunately I live in NJ where (I just learned) the only thing that you can legally own is a sling shot [:d] the only ak type that is legal is mak90 with thumbhole stock. Besides after analyzing all of this I realize that I was dreaming and you woke me up. I am no gunsmith.
PS I had checked some auctions and a legal kronkov runs about $850. Funny u can get it on the street for 300+0
