    First of all, expect a price tag of about $1200. That hit most of the people I know harder than the recoil. I fired one several times and the recoil didn't seem so bad as long as you were ready for it. I guess if you were just messing around, shooting one-handed, and only weighed around 80 pounds it would put you on the ground pretty quick.
    It's worth it, but the main gripe is that the ammo is so hard to find- for some reason, we can't find anybody who sells 50AE locally, so we've always had to buy ammo on-line.

    I OWN A DESERT EAGLE IN .50 AE. WITH A C-MORE RED DOT SIGHT. WITHOUT THE C-MORE IT SHOT VERY HIGH. IT IS VERY ACCURATE AND FUN TO SHOOT. THE WEIGHT AND GAS OPERATED ACTION MAKE IT COMPARABLE TO SHOOTING A .44 MAG. REVOLVER. I SUGGEST GETTING THE HOGUE RUBBER GRIPS. THEY MAKE IT EASIER TO CONTROL THE PISTOL. GRIP FRAME IS LARGE. GOOD SHOOTING.

    Neat gun, big boom, manageable recoil. Ammo not that difficult to find and reloading components avaible. I have one to sell $1000 shipped to your FFL. As NIB fired 25x. Comes with 1 factory mag, box, paperwork and tools, box and a half of ammo and RCBS reloading dies.

    As new,Fired 62x,Black,6", hard black plastic case, reloading dies, Black nylon holster W/extra mag pouch on holster, whats left of the 100rds I bought, 1lb H110 powder, the once fired brass. the reloades I did( about 50rds ).

    drawn, Why do you say " Dont rely on it for your life".
    It makes BIG holes in whatever it hits. MAJOR indentions in 2" plate steel. Fires everytime. Yes, It is a handfull.

    If your comment is that if you dont shoot it on a regular basis, then , I agree, dont bet your life on it. My normal weapon is my 44mag , 6", 240gr JHP. I can hit ANYTHING I can see, up to 100yrds away. I would bet my life on my 44mag.

    If I wasnt in need of the money, I would keep my 50AE and buy the 44mag conversion.

    We have the Desert Eagle 50 & the 44 as a rental guns for the range in the gun shop that I work at. The things are constantly inoperable. parts breaking on them left and right! Of course being range guns they do get a lot of firing & abuse. I'm sure your gun will be fine but I'd have a backup if I were you.

    If you think the price you'll pay is "ransom" I'd suggest you cool off before spending that much dough - these aren't firearms that appeal (or can be accurately fired or maintained properly) to a wide variety of average shooters. I have a "standard" 6" barreled 44 magnum Model VII that I bought used a couple of years ago. I've had absolutely no problems with it regarding parts breaking off or other malfunctions. I try to keep it clean & well lubed, avoid shooting non-jacketed ammunition (which can seriously clog the gas tube & gas piston components, leading to very poor & perhaps even unsafe performance), & can consistently shoot groups under 2" at 50 yards with a variety of handloads and factory ammunition. I did see fit to add the Millett adjustable target sights available from IMI though after an initially disappointing week or two trying to get my point-of-impact to match my point-of-aim. They are worth the money to the kind of shooter who can appreciate something a little different but they're not for everybody.
