Norwegian M/1914 Value
I have a Norwegian Model 1914 pistol I purchased at a pawn shop some years back. The bluing is about 85-90%, all the import numbers match except the barrel (8 # off the serial). It still shoots a good group at the 15 yard range. Pistol and magazine both have lanyard loops. On one side of the slide is "11.25 m/m AUT. PISTOL M/1914 No 285xx with an armory cartouche above the number 5. The other side of the slide has "1942" with an "N" underneath. There is some minor pitting on the slide and in the barrel. I know it is difficult to appraise a weapon this way, I'm just trying to get an educated guess as to what it might be worth. Any kind of information on this weapon would be greatly appreciated! The M1914 was the first licensed copy of the Colt M1911. It is identical to the Colt M1911, except for an elongated slide release. Colt engineers went over and helped set up production at Kongsberg Vapenfabrikk at Kongsberg, Norway.
Production started in 1917 and ended in the early '30's after about 20,000 pistols had been manufactured.
At the beginning of WWII the Norwegians resumed production, but no pistols were completed prior to the German occupation. The Germans decided to permit the arsenal to continue manufacture with a view of issuing these pistol to occupation troops stationed in Norway.
The German-supervised production was suspended at the end of '42, with a total of about 10,000 pistols produced.
From the date on yours, I'd assume that it was one of those German occupation guns.
I have no idea of the value, but if it were mine, I'd hang onto it for it's historical significance.0 -
There were some put together at the end of the war as I have one that I have had for 30 years that is dated 1945. It has no German markings and it is my understanding that some were put together at the end of the war from remaining parts. The origonal finish is a black phosphate finish and the origonal wood grips on mine are almost black. The mag that came with mine has a loop on the bottom like a 1911. I have seen these offered for sale in the $900 range in 90 % condition that were all origonal and matching numbers. Mine is a good shooter, but after they became collectable I stopped shoot it. 0 -
Thanks for the info! I really don't plan to sell or shoot the weapon (well maybe a little shooting). I am interested in WW II weapons and have built a modest collection with some accessories. I passed up a chance at a 90 degree barrel for the M-1 carbine some years back, and I could kick myself for it! I live way out in the boonies, and don't get much chance to look for items to add. I'm really glad to find this site! Maybe now I can do some serious work on my collection! Once again, Thank you all for your kind assistance!
