Please post a complete description of the gun in question including all markings, type of action, length of barrels, caliber and anything else you can think of. If you can post pictures that would help a lot. Iam sure that someone here can help you.

Have limited information. It is a prucussion rifle. Think it's 52 cal. Don't know length. Dates 1700-1800's.
Have friend that is looking to sell gun, but not sure of value. Would take any information from guns in that era. Someone has offered around $5,000, but think it may be worth considerably more

There are old guns worth $5k but only a very small percentage of them. To evaluate one and place it in that price range will require specific detail info plus good photos. To provide the necessary detail, the one describing must have the knowledge and experience to describe it correctly. Suggest you locate an advanced collector or dealer in THAT KIND of piece and get a formal appraisal. If it is worth anything like $5k the appraisal cost will be worth it. If not worth a lot, it can be considered insurance against making a $5k mistake. Hope this helps. Robert

You say "flintlock" and then you say "percussion".....was it a flintlock modified to percussion?

We'd need a complete description of the firearm and all markings on it to even have a clue as to it's value.

Also, if there is any information or markings that this weapon was used by the Confederacy during the Civil War, it would probably enhance it's value greatly.
