The rust, even though now removed, has eleminated it from being a "collectable." But it is a darn good shooter, so enjoy your good fortune. Value should be around $500.

    My humble opinion,

Rafter is correct about the rust causing a drop from collector to shooter status, but the 70 series is highly desired by serious shooters. For $100 plus what ever the gun smith fee was, you got a great deal! To interest serious Colt collectors a firearm has to either be very rare- in which case condition will take a backseat (to a point) or if the pistol is rather common, in excellent to like new condition. To get a real premium you need a new in the box firearm and the papers that came along with the pistol when it was purchased.
Colt guys just can't get enough of those boxes and papers!

MY COLT WAS MADE IN THE MID TO LATE 70'S
AND THE SERIAL HAS A CODE TO DETERMINE.
SUCH AS 70B, 70S, 70G AND SO ON
MY COLT HAS 70S AND 5 MORE NUMBERS TO COMPLETE ITS SERIAL
    "70SXXXXX"
AND MINE ALSO HAS THE ADDED FEATURES THAT MADE THEM MORE ACCURATE
    THAN PREVIOUS MODELS

I JUST HAD SURFACE RUST THAT COVERED THE GUN
    THANX 4 THE FEEDBACK

IN ADDITION SERIES 70 PISTOLS WITH THE "S" IN THE SERIAL
WERE PRODUCED FROM 1976 TO 1980
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR US
WELL THE SMALLER THE NUMBER THE EARLIER ITS PRODUCTION
