Savage Stevens Model 325C Bolt Action Rifle

I just bought the above 30-30 rifle and although it looks in great shape, I'm concerned that the bolt action operation is very stiff. Is this common with this model rifle or could I have a problem that's causing the bolt action to operate so stiffly? I lubricated the bolt action assembly and that seemed to help a little. I haven't shot the rifle as yet. If this isn't a common trait with this model rifle - what could cause the stiffness?
    Thanks

LOTS OF THINGS CAN CAUSE THIS, BURR ON THE BOLT OR RECEIVER, SCOPE MOUNTING SCREWS TO LONG (THIS ACTION WAS NOT ORIGINALY DRILLED & TAPED FOR SCOPE MOUNTS, SO IF THIS WAS DONE THERE COULD BE A BURR ON THE HOLE). IMPROPERLY FITTED REPLACEMENT MAGAZINE. THESE WERE NOT THE SMOOTHEST OF ACTIONS EITHER.
