M-39 Finnish Sniper Rifle

There is a company offering this refurbished rifle in like new condition married to a new Russian 8 x 42 scope.

This appeals to me as a good "poor man's sniper rifle". I have found My M-44 carbine to be very accurate using open sights.

What are the experts opinions. Thank you.

  Is that InterOrdnance that is selling that gun? They are a bunch of jerks. The M39 is a great rifle and much more accurate than your M44. I have heard that sniper get-up is pretty good, but... Since you know it is an aftermarket rig, you could buy a very good M39 from Wholesale Guns and Ammo for $189 and put a scope on it and you'd probably have a better shooter, and not have to deal with IO.

  I have to agree with Mr. Griggs. I've seen this rig from IO and while its a fine looking set up, I feel there are better ways to go about it. I'm also relieved to hear that I'm not the only one who's had problems trying to deal with IO! As suggested, call Wholesale Gun (who I believe used to be Burn's Bros.) at 631-208-9500. They have Finnish M39's at prices ranging from $70 to $300. By choosing your own rifle you can either pay the collector premium asked for some manufactures' M39's, or simply purchase a more common (and less expensive maker). You can also choose your own optics and that can make a BIG difference.
  
  Mr. Griggs seems to know more about military bolt action rifles than most "experts" in this forum so I'm sure he could give you more details on how to set up your new sniper rifle- which mounts to use and a good brand of optics. I can tell you that the Finnish M39 is one of the most accurate turn bolt military rifles ever made. The M39 has a very inovative stock and forearm, who's joining together took a high dgree of skill by some very serious craftsmen. If I remember correctly each M39 off the line was test fired and had to group 3 shots into a 30mm circle at 100 meters...if it could not, it was rejected on the spot!
  
  Rifles of this type were used by Finnish military marksmen for many years and have claimed many records...including a worlds record back before WWII. When you think about the hours of time that went into producing each of these M39's and the skill level of the production personel who made them, todays asking prices are a bargan! Such rifles could hardly even be built today as the manufacturing and labor (if such skills could even be found) costs would be astronomical!
