220 swift 1 in 14 rifling. whats it good for
I can obtain a mauser barrel for my 98 in 220 swift at a great price but it has 1 in 14 rifling. I would like to shoot the same 55 gr bullets that I load in my .223 Will this work?

Never had a .220 Swift, but my loading manual shows
.220 with 1 in 14 twist barrel, loads from 45 gn. to 60 gn. bullets.
Don't send flowers when I die. Send money now, I can buy more ammo.0 -
That's a standard twist rate for the Swift and 22-250. GHD 0 -

I think my 220 swift has that twist rate. It will print 5 shots at around .3" at 100yds in a 40gr hornady or winchester (both balistic tips).
A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.0 -
JustC, What cases, primers, and powder load do you use? Im most interested in speed with accuracy. 0 -
Those two bullets I mentioned are factory loads. The Hornady v-max , moly,40gr are the best so far. The Winchester 40gr balistic silvertip are very nice as well, but I have only fired a couple at this point. The remington 50 Balistic tips are only slighlty larger. I also tried the Norma 50gr softpoints, but only several. I noticed a good deal more muzzle blast with those, and have decided to wait until I have seasoned the barrel a little more before I shoot the hotter loads. I havn't even bought the loading dies yet, ....I'm having too much fun shooting the factory stuff right now.
