manufacturing date of marlin 30-30
Bought a Marlin 30-30 last week from a gun shop. It is a model 336 with micro groove barrel and the numbers on it are 71 226522. It is a conservative 90% condition with a weaver 4X scope. It looks relatively unfired, just a small amount of bluing off the lever contact point and some small dings on the stock, the barrel looks like new, can anybody give me the manufacturing date and some idea of worth. I paid $220 for it but I really know little about lever actions any help and comments would sure be appreciated. Dandy

Yours was made in 1971. See below:

All Marlins manufactured from 1969 to 1990:
The first two digits of the serial number designate the year of manufacture, either as the last two digits of the year (in 1969-71) or as a number code (1971 and later)..

Well it sure is in good shape for that age. I plan to use it for hunting with my friends in the East Texas woods. Being a Marlin, which I think makes excellent firearms, I doubt it has appreciated in value but I will gladly add it to the collection. Thanks again, Dandy 0 -
I think you did good on the price. My Blue Book, which is several years old, shows the 336C at $185 for 95% condition. It has been my experience that Marlin's will bring a little more than book value.
