Which Load?

I am shooting a Remington model 700 in 270 and 308 both for deer shots range from 10 yds to 200 what type of bullet works best for this purpose?

  To be very honest, the remington core-lokt works extremely well at those close ranges. Many of your advantages from boat tail and VLD extended range bullets, don't even present themselves until 300+ yds. Flat base and standard soft point bullets are more than sufficient at the 200yd and under distance, and quite often will hold less than MOA groups out that far as well. Even better, they are cheaper. Now, my preference is a balistic tip, but they do damage some (read a lot of...) meat. But hey, no tracking is a good thing.

  I am loading my son's ADL with 150 gr Nosler Bal.Tips and his last 4 Whitetail have been a one shot deal. This bullet is just a little light so the next loading for him I will go to the 165 gr Nosler.
  
  The 270, well, just about anything will work, on deer that is, but for Elk I would go to the 150 conventional bullet, or the 140 gr Barnes 'x" bullet. I am using the 130 "x" in my ADL now, no Elk with it yet, but if shots are not to much pass 200 yrds it should be ok.
