exportaion of firearms???

I would like to export a firearm to Finland I know I need an exporter. Anyone done this? Thanks

    CONTACT YOUR LOCAL OFFICE BATF.

    I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

    jvm; forget the BATF as they have NOTHING to do with firearms exports
    and will not answer any questions regaurding that subject. Are you exporting a rifle, pistol, or shotgun? The first two items are controled by the Department of State, Office of Defence Trade Controls. The Department of Commerce controls the exportation of sporting shotguns with barrels over 18". I need to know what EXACTLY what you are planning on doing so that I can give you correct information. These people do not deal in generalities so get used to being VERY specific...don't say "I want to export a firearm". What make and model is it? Some types, like assault weapons and certian handguns, won't make it out of this country without some serious effort.

    Duckhunter; contacting the BATF regaurding firearms exports is a waste of valuable time as they will simply refer you to the two Federal Departments who handle exports. If you feel that the BATF will place you in prison for exporting firearms without their consent I believe that you are badly mistaken. The Treasury Department is the lead agency in charge of commerce in firearms- importation (U.S. Customs) and firearms industry regulation (Alcohol Tobaoco and Firearms). The Arms Export Control Act of 1976 regulates the exportation of military hardware as well as sporting firearms and the Department of State, Office of Defence Trade Controls issues all export licenses- OTDC DSP-5, for firearms other than certian sporting shotguns (regulated by the Commerce Department- using a general export license). There is no fee for these licenses and an individual may make an "Occasional" export of a firearm himself with out permission from the BATF or the use of a licensed importer (FFL Type 08, who are registered under the AECA-1976 and have filed Form 4587 and paid the yearly fee of $250) if approved by State or Commerce. If you notice the BATF grants Federal Firearms Licenses soley for the purpose of IMPORTS and the $250 fee is for the purpose of importation and not exporting firearms. If you have information to the contrary of what I've stated in my posts, please feel free to educate me and provide the correct details in depth. I'm always ready to learn. By the way, I read your profile. What exactly is a "gun trader"? I am unaware of that classification by the BATF or a Federal Firearms License for that catagory of activity. Thank you in advance.
