308 ammo
I just bought me a cetme today. Wichita has a gun show this weekend I want to get military ammo or something that I can shoot pretty cheep I'd appreciate any information on what is decent and what to stay away from.

Good experiment, but if you really care for your gun, 2000 rounds with no break, thats just abuse. It is a good experiment and statistic though.

won't do it again, I just did it to shut up the big boys who think that the only good gun is a theirs and everithing elso it just junk. You should see their faces 0 -
7.62 & 308 two peas in a pod, the only problem is like the 30/06 & CAL. 30 M2 ball, the grand rifles & 7.63 NATO the M-14 are gas operated, all military ammo was loaded with a med. burning powder(I.E. IMR 4895) & the gas holes in the rifles were drilled to the right size for this burning rate powder, some 308/30/06 commeriacal ammo is loaded with slower burning powder that causes excess pressure on the operating rod. (I.E failure) any commerical manufactured rifles from 1950's on will more than withstand any 7.62 nato ammo. All 7.62 nato ammo is 50,000 psi, a 308 factory duplication round is 52,800 psi. So the major problem would be, is shooting 308 factory ammo in a gas operated military rifle, most noted would be failure to feed soft-point or round-nosed ammo, followed by op-rod failure. 0 -
Good call, thats one thing I really like about the FAL type rifles, is that adjustable gas port for using a wider range of ammo, I sure wish my M1A had that.
