Remington 700 22-250 faint rifling in barrel
Went to a local gun shop today and saw a used Remington 700 ADL in 22-250 . The price was OK so I looked down the barrel and the rifling was very faint. It looked almost like Marlin Micro-groove. I own a Remington 700 270 about 1974 vintage and it has strong deep rifling. Is the 22-250 worn out?

Probably not. Hard to really tell just looking with the eye down a bore. I still contend that 98% of the guns traded in because they "won't shoot" anymore have never been properly cleaned! Have cleaned too many that came around after the JB, Sweet's treatment! Just did a 25-06 yesterday that hadn't been properly cleaned since it was bought 16 years ago. Rifling was "faint" in it too when I looked at it. 1 hour later it looked like a mirror inside! GHD 0 -
I have experienced the same conditions as gd. One test you may wish
to perform is checking the muzzle wear. Simply insert a bullet in
the muzzle and see if it is tight.0
