300 whisper ammo
Recently I had read a post in here, which mentioned a cal. 300 whisper round. It that a new stuff. What's the specification? It is less noisy like the title states. And over all is it decent cartridge

Off the top of my head the 300 Whisper is the .223 case necked up to hold a 200 gr. 30 caliber bullet. This bullet is fired at sub-sonic speeds so there is no bullet crack. (mini sonic boom). Add a supressor and you have a near silent rifle. Specs are 30 caliber 200 gr. bullet at around 1000 FPS. It is way to low powered for big game hunting. 30 caliber 200 gr. bullets are designed for tough game at three times the speed and probably would not expand at all. 0 -
Actually it is the 221 Remington case and I have killed several deer with it.

This round was designed to be fired in a suppressed M16 by special forces in covert situations. However, several different loads are avilable. For instance Corbon has a 125 gr. hollow point at 2100 FPS.

Can u get an Ar15 or upper in 300 whisper. I own colt ar15 and always like to try new things. Other question; is this rd. strong enough to kill a deer. (My uncle lives in MD and he is a farmer. through crop damage permits sometimes we hunt bucks right from his porch on Sunday?s mornings. I would like to get something quiet so I wouldn?t wake up his neighbors 0 -

Just go on up to the big boy and get a 50 Whisper!! 750 grain bullet at 1050 fps and will penetrate them little Md whitetails from throat to butt!!! GHD 0 -
What you really need is an AR upper in .50 Beowulf!! Saw this bad boy in a gun mag I was flipping through in Wal-Mart the other day. I believe it's a lengthened .50 AE . Ouch!

The 32WSL was an old, similar cartridge. It was a dud because of its' marginal power for hunting and became obsolete. The 300 Whisper was specifically designed to use a big bullet subsonically. In using a small case with a small powder charge, gas volume is minimized and the suppressor has less of a job to do.
Lighter 30 caliber bullets at higher velocities don't make sense because they're inferior in energy to other calibers available for the AR15.0 -
If your looking for an upper for your AR-15 get the 7.62x39 This upper is readily available from several sources, probably much cheaper than the Whisper. Ammo is dirt cheap. And the power is about the same. 0 -
I load 7.62x39 similarly, 188 gr Gas Checked Semi wadcutter at about 1000 fps. Not good for much but being quiet.
