Assault Weapons Ban technicality?

I was reading the 'MAK-90'post and had a thought. Must a gun have a detatchable mag to be considered an assault weapon? Let's say I bought a Yugo SKS and added a pistol grip and folding stock, but kept the box mag. This would be 4 'evil fetures' but it does not have a detatchable mag, so would it be an assault weapon or not?

  I just got through posting a response on the MAK-90 post, and gave a couple of web sites which defines the 1994 ban and assault weapons. There are other laws, different than the 1994 ban, which pertain to the SKS. There was a site I use to refer people to on the SKS, I'll see if I can find it again.

  FWIW, "assault" is whatever someone thinks it is. You can get hauled off to the pokey even if something is legit. Rule of thumb is not to modify/add anything that wasn't originally on the gun.
