primer question?
Is there any way to deprime live primers? I put the the wrong primer into some shells. Also, is there away to deactivate live primers?

Not quite, I've reused punched out primers--they still do go bang.

Live primers can be deactivated in bulk by dumping 'em into a bucket of water. What you do with the resulting mess needs to be considered though as the solution will be toxic to plants & animals in any quantity; the active component of most modern primers is a lead salt. 0 -
I've been punching them out for over 45 yrs. and have never had one go off.

Dumping them in oil is better. It is also a good idea for hangfires. 0 -
wd-40 will make (most) of them inert. 0 -
If the shells are loaded, you can use a bullet puller and take them apart, then chamber them and shoot the primer, decap as normal.
If just primed cases, WD-40, sprayed in the cases, left over night, and decap as normal, then clean cases, with hot soap & water.
Warning!!!! I have washed cases in water,(not on purpose) then air dried, with primers in them, & then tried firing them, they all every one, fired!!!!
I've also very! very ! carefully with the lightest!! pressure decaped live primers, without any problems, using a universal decapping die.0 -
Punch em out with the loading dies, throw them away. They cost almost nothing.

The main thing is safety. Assume the primer is live unless it is fired in the same manner as you would assume a gun is loaded.

I salvaged and reused 250 primers a couple years ago. Only had one misfire. I just punch them out with a Lee universal decap die. Go slow so you don't set them off or damage them. Safety glasses are a must when reloading.
