What M1A magazine brand is this?
I thought all the magazines I got with my M1A were military, but I have this one thats a little different than the others, makes me question whethers its a USGI mag or not.
Its not parkerized, instead it has like maybe gunkote or something on it. And on the back side, near the bottom it has OM stamped in it.
Its pretty much identical to the USGI mags I have accept for the two details I mentioned. I has the same followers, but I can notice very slight diferences in the body tubes, where weld spots are and very slight geometrical difference in the little lips in front of the feed lips. So far its functioned just fine with no problems, but I worry about the life span of this mag, I don't want junk mags.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

use it, use it, use it, for any & all none combat shooting, if & when it fails, junk it!! keep your known good mags for the real thing!

Lee.... You might have one of the Chinese M1A mags. Since Norinco made their own version of the M1A M-14 guns there were also a bunch of mags that came from China a few years ago.
They are a little lighter gray than the USGI mags, and sold for about half the price, and are worth about that.
You said it works ok, but it probably wont last as long as the U.S. version.

As stated, the OM magazine is a genuine GI and as good as can be had. I disagree about the Chinese being worth half. They seem as good as GI to me. (Chinese magazines are unmarked.) However, Doc undoubtedly has much more experience with the M1A/M14 and I would be interested in his analysis of the Chinese M14 magazines. What say you Doc? 0 -
Judgecolt, I've also used these Chicom mags with good results. I had the old Ohaus scale out last night weighing Beretta M92 mags (USA/Italian) on a different post about Beretta magazine quality. The scale is still here so this is what I found. M14 magazine marked "W"- 230 grams. M14 magazine marked "OM"- 229 grams. M14 magazine marked BRW-S1- 236 grams. M14 magazine marked BRW-S1 (slighty different font used)- 238 grams. Polytech magazine M14 type (sold the rifle, kept one magazine)- 231 grams. Gun show magazine M14 type (you know the kind;junk)- 198 grams. Of course weight does not necessarily equal quality, but the Polytech magazine is at least close to OEM as far as weight is concerned. I don't shoot my NM M1A enough to wear out magazines of any type so I'll leave that subject to others.
