T/C Encore 50 cal. Muzzle loader
Purchased a T/C 50 Cal. muzzle loader with a Simmons 2.8X10 Atec scope, both are brand new. I've shot it at least 100 times trying to get a group under 6". I have used T/C 240Gr. bullets in the cheap shot sabot and mag express sabot. For powder I have tried 2 50gr.pellets and 90gr. Pyradex select. I am shooting at 100yds. I have followed all the directions and swabbed the barrel between shots. Which would any of you suggest the scope or the gun? In case you are wondering I also have a Knight MK92 with a simmon 4X scope that is 10 years old that with 90grs. of pyrodex select and the same 240gr. bullet I have consistantly had 3 shot groups under 2 inches. I expected the same size groups from the T/C. Been thinking of calling the factory of each and see what they have to say. Any suggestions? AL

Maybe try a different brand of bullet? Not every gun will perform the same with the same load. Personally 6" at 100yds with a blackpowder guns sounds darn spify rific to me, I can't hit the broad side of a barn with mine, LOL...

I HAVE AN ENCORE .50 CAL. MUZZLELOADER. I USE A HORNADY .44 CAL. 300 GRAIN HP/XTP AND TWO 50 GRAIN PYRODEX PELLETS. 2 IN. GROUPS AT 100 YDS OFF SAND BAGS. I HAVE HEARD THAT SOME USE .45 CAL. BULLETS WITH GOOD RESULTS. 0 -
Try the Knight Red Hot 250gr sabot with two pellets. they are also made by Barnes, and called expander xp"s or some such. Knight just puts them in their package. I bet they will group well, we have gotten them to do great in the same muzzleloader. (1" and less at 100yds) also, you can call T/C and they will fax you directions to adjust down the trigger on it, which makes a big difference.

Make sure your bases & rings are tight.Get some diffrent bullets you would like to try.Set-up a target at 50yds so you can hit the target.Use loose powder & start out with 80 grains.Shoot 3 times & measure your groups.Swab-out your barrel & increase your powder charge by 5 grains & repeat until you have found what load-combo your gun likes.Let us know how you did. Using the black T/C sabot and the 240gr XTP bullet, I found mine to shoot best with 3 50gr pellets (lit by a Win 209 primer). I'm getting 100yd sub-MOA groups (off sand bags).
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
Well, called T/C and got a good factory rep. He told me to disreguard the part in the owners manual about using T/C butter lube in the barrel; and to try a heaveier bullet with 2-50gr. pellets. So after cleaning the barrel I started over, first with 240gr. XTP Mag bullets. Out of 3 shots one would go out of the group with wiping the barrel good between shots with T/C number 13 bore cleaner. From here I went to the 300gr. XTP bullet, same thing. Swithed over to 295gr. PowerBelt bullets with 2 pellets and the group went to 3 inches. I took my time loading and wipeing the barrel to make sure I kept the heat factor down, Temperature of 70 degrees. That is all I had time for today, may try different loads another day. Thanks for all the help I will try every thing offered. T/C said if not happy send the barrel in and they will check it out, but I think I will try a few more combinations; under 3 inch groups is probably getting pretty close on sand bags. Thanks Al 0 -

You say you are running cleaner down the barrel between shots? Did you completely break down the gun, taking out the breech plug? If not, I would be willing to bet, you left solvent at the breech end of the barrel. This quickly goes to work on your pyrodex and causes erratic and inconsistent ignitions. I find that 3 shots is plenty do-able without wiping the bore. Try 3 shots with those 240 and 250 gr sabots without wiping the barrel and see if it doesn't group better. I bet the flyer in your group results from the solvent in the bore. If you want to clean every shot, it's best to break it all the way down and remove the breech plug. You also want to dry patch it each time as well. Just my expereince with them.
