Polymer Guns
I've been searching for a concealed carry handgun and have been looking mostly at Glocks and Para's. At first, I wasn't at all interested in any polymer guns, but they've started to grow on me. Has anyone had any experience with the any of these, particularly the Springfield Armory series and the offerings from H&K? Any long term problems with reliability and durability?

I have two. A P-11 and a Glock. The Glock is the most accurate carry gun I have. Going to poly. is, like anything different- people are reluctant to try anything new. I remember when microwave ovens first came out- "your gonna get radiation all over you" "I won't eat food that has radiation in it" "why do I need to cook faster?". Ignorance and change scares some folks.
Polymers today are very durable, reliable and lighter than metal. The glock was tested for 125,000 rounds in one gun after throwing it in mud, snow, salt water, and sand. Of this- only (if I remember) 8 jams, but only because it needed cleaning.
I have shot my Glock for at least 2,500 rounds and have never had a jam, only 4 or 5 no-fires due to a bad round. Keep it clean after 500 rounds or when done shooting, and it will be with you a long long time. *I use glock as an example!0 -
Glock is an efficient fighting handgun, maybe the best ever. I collect Colts...I love Colts...but I carry a Glock, and have for about 10 years.
For a concealed carry gun, I suggest a G26 or G27. I have both, but mainly carry the G27.

Daddo's pretty much got this tagged, just thought I'd add this. When you start lugging around a gun all day every day, you kinda start to appreciate the lighter weight of a poly framed gun, though it might not be much, it still helps.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

I own Glocks and a Ruger P-95.The poly framed are just as durable as the steel framed ones.I got my first Glock a 19 over ten years ago and have fired it as much as all my other guns combined.Trouble?Zip nodda,nothing.The aren't pretty but they work.The Ruger?I have had it for a couple months now have put 6-700 rounds threw it without a hickup either.I would recommend the Ruger to anyone not comfortable with the glock safe action trigger.CW

I have an HK USP .45 Full Size with HK night sites and have put about 2,500 rounds through it with only one jam. The jam was caused by a cheap non-HK magazine (Pro Mag) and was in no way the fault of the gun. It has reliably fed reloads, Federal, Speer, Corbon and more.
I've been using it in a series of defense/tactical shooting classes, with double taps, speed reloads, etc. and have found it to be reasonbably accurate with manageable recoil, a comfortable feel and very reliable. It is also very easily to strip and clean. A plus for HK is that it comes with an ambidextrous magazine release, and the Variant 2 has a left hand safety and decocker. You can also get a ambidextrous decocker/safety lever.
I'm looking for a CC weapon myself and would choose the HK .45 compact if it was a bit smaller. My shooting instructor has the compact .40 and really likes it and finds it to be reasonable for concealed carry.
Not to state the obvious, but shoot before you buy if at all possible. I love my HK but can't shoot a decent group with a Glock. I don't blame Glock, I blame the way my hand fits on the grip. You might have a similar problem with a different specific make/model.

Every gun I own is half plastic ( although I'm striving to change that ) and I have never had a problem. I have a both a Glock and an HK USP, and have never experience any problems with either, other than jams caused by crappy ammo.
I love them both but I think I like my HK a little bit more- it just seems like it is put together a little better than the Glock. I want to shoot an XD but nobody I know has own and the range won't rent them out.

I carry a model 30 Glock 45 acp. I do most of my shooting with 1911 type pistols, but I like the Glock for concealed carry. I like the poly frame guns for carry as they don't rust, the finish does not wear off,and the don't freeze your fingers when it is cold. I carry a p-40 Kel-tec in a pocket holster or the Glock in a Fobus holster. 0 -
I currently own six Glocks and an HK USP .40. My oldest Glock is a model 21 with approx 8000 round through it. Never a problem. The others have all performed well for me also and do not show any unusal wear.
The USP .40 is newer with approx 1000 rounds through it. Inside it looks new.

I also carry a Glock. there are more options I think with the Glocks than with the USP. I carry a G26 with me and it is small enough to be concealed easily. Glock has a .45 in the subcompact size that comes with a 10 round magazine if you want a bigger round. The best suggestion is to shoot them both and see what feels best in your hand. 0
