First new hunting hand gun.

I want to but a new or used scoped hand gun for hunting,
what cal and make should I look for.

  I use a Thompson Contender with a 10" 30 Herrett bbl. and find it hard to beat. 150 gn .30 cal bullet works good out to about 150-200 yards.

  Cheap lone eagle single shot .357-7mm. from around 200
  desert eagle semi-auto.357-.50 from 700
  colt revolver 44 from 500
  try a optama 2000 sights or a halo sights much nicer than scopes

  You can probably find a nice Ruger super Redhawk in .44mag and scope it for less than $600.

  The best choice is a Ruger Blackhawk in .41 Remington Magnum. Mount a good 2X EER scope and you are ready to go. (Although, I feel that the scope is a handicap rather than a help at handgun ranges.)

  I have to agree with the above. My Fav Is my single action Ruger black Hawk in .44 Mag with 11" BBL. its is a hog leg but good at 100 yrds.

  I currently use a 6" Colt Anaconda .44 Mag with a Tasco PPII Red dot sight. Very accurate and the Dot sight offers a great sight picture and allows easy follow up shots if necessary.
  
  I also have a 6" S&W 686 .357 Mag. that works well for me. Just Iron sight as I would not take more than a 50 yd. shot with it.

  Or look at a Savage Striker they come in a wide range of calibers.

  Thompson Contender or Encore in anything from a 357 Max up thru many rifle calibers for hunting. The interchangeable bbls let you change caliber and/or bbl length quickly and easily without having to buy a whole new gun and they have wonderful triggers.

  Can't figure out why so many people just ignore the 45 Colt. In a Ruger, Freedom Arms or a Taurus it can be loaded to just about equal the 454 Casull. When loaded as such it is better than the 44 mag with less pressures. I hunt with 41 mag, 45 Colt and the 480 Ruger. Have taken big game with the 41 mag and 45 colt. The 480 Ruger is still waiting to draw blood. Will probably do so this winter on a caribou.

  aglore is a 100% right , 45 colt will do anything the 44 mag will and in most case do it better , I've killed deer will my 357mag but it really is a little on the light side , shot a big 9 point 2 years ago with my ruger redhawk in 45 colt , one shot thru both lungs run maybe 50 yards and droped, also have a 7 1/2" ruger super redhawk in 480, it has a bushnell holosight on it ,, with any luck will get to use it this year, so far all its killed has been paper
