info on red dot scopes

who here uses and likes red dot scopes?

what is the difference between the 30mm 40mm and 42mm sights? (i know its the objective diameter!, i mean the quality of target acquistion,clarity etc, etc)

during mid day can you use these effectively?

what brand do you have? good/bad thoughts on $50 tasco or bsa sights?

  I have several red dot , 2 are tasco, a tasco propoint 2 which i use on my Rem. 870 12 ga for turkey, works just fine even in mid day, a smaller tasco on my ruger mark II , and then i have 4 bushnell holo sights , which I think are the best of any thing out there , have one on my Ruger super redhawk was on my 454 now its on my 480 , ones on my Ruger 10-22 kids love it, next ones on my T/C encore 50 cal blackpowder barrel and the last ones still in the box but its going on to a T/C super 16 in 223,, all of these work great even in bright sunlight or near dark, just adjust the power setting,,, you can't beat a holosight for hunting, no eye relief problems , no problems with it being to dark

  for close range (under 100yds) they cant be beat.keep your eyes open for the tasco pro-points since tasco went out of buisness you can catch them pretty cheap.i found some pro-point 11 for 59.00.i even have one mounted on my browning buck mark 22,love it.my eyes arent what they used too be ,but the red dots really seem too help .just my 2 cents ,keep on bangin boys ,don

  I have several Tasco Pro-points. They work fine, but try to stay away from heavy recoil guns. I know several shooters that have used them on 45 acp pistols, and they keep a couple on hand while they are sending others to be repaired. I have had good luck with them on 22 rimfire guns,a 9mm Marlin rifle,and an AR-15 Colt. You need to be sure that you get an appropriate size dot. I have a 3 minute dot on my AR-15, which I use out to about 100 yards. On my Ruger 22/45 Pistol, I use a 10 minute dot out to 25 yards.

  I have 2 Tasco Pro-point II's. Have used them for many years with no problems. One is on a Buckmark .22, the other is on a 12 gauge pump slug gun shooting 3" slugs. So as far as them not standing up to heavy recoil guns, I have had no problems( and there is a lot of recoil when you turn loose a 3" mag slug). Forget about objective size since there is no eye relief or magnification. I leave both eyes open, that's about as wide a field of view as you can have. The illusion is that the red dot "appears" on the target, and I am not aware that I am looking through anything. I've used them under all condtions(including -20 degree F.) Carry a spare battery hunting and remember to shut them off when you are done for the day. Hope this helps.

  I've recently added red dots--they were on two 22 target pistols I bought. One Ultra Dot and one Aimpoint 2000 which seems to be an older one. Both work just fine. I really haven't messed around with the different pieces--if it ain't broke and you're tearing up the ten ring and vicinity, just use it.

  My Leupold LG35 holds up to 50AE recoil. Try to get the largest diameter tube that you can, if it is going on a pistol. When you hold it out in front of you, especially at dusk, it is tough to see through the smaller tubes. If it is going on a gun to be shouldered for shooting, you can get away with a smaller tube, as it is closer to your eye. I prefer the Leupold and the Burris, and keep in mind what several members have said about recoil levels. The cheaper ones won't hold up to heavy recoil, just like regular telescopic sights.
