Deer knife
Getting back into deer hunting, need to update equipment. Anyone have a favorite general purpose deer knife?

I have two: Cold Steel Pendleton mini hunter which is smaller than most guys seem to carry, but allows me to lay a finger on the top of the blade and control it very well. Holds an edge well also. The other is an older Kershaw, also small which does a nice job, but doesn't hold an edge quite as well.
I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

I like a fixed 4" blade for an all around deer knife. The one I currently use is a Browning. Buck also makes a pretty decent knfe. 0 -
Old Timer drop point skinner, or Cattaraugus 225Q.

I have found the Gerber Knife and hatchet to be handy for small and large game.
Best!!!

I sort of like the Knives of Alaska Brown Bear Cub and the Hunter knives.

Buck knife with the "zipper", they stay sharp longer than most other brands I have used, and the gut hook (zipper) works like a charm. Use a hatchet for the pelvic bone, don't dull your knife, and sharpening will be infrequent.
A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.0 -
I like the Knives of Alaska too, but I have a bitch of a time putting an edge on them.
Thanks, Grizztribefans@sssnet.com0 -
Buck pocket for birds

You might consider looking at the Randall Model 21. Especially if you want to mount the head and shoulders. The style of the blade is real handy for that type of skinning.
Sent one to a friend in Colorado and he likes it just fine.
Not saying the Randall is best just that the blade style works real well for me.
One other thing, the wait for Randall knives is several years.
However, see them listed on e-b everyday.0
