10/22 Red dot mounting
I'm going to buy a BSA 30mm red dot to mount onto my 10/22. They are offered in weaver style or the standard 3/8 inch 22 rail. I was wondering which one would be more stable to mount on. Should I buy the weaver base or just use the factory mount that came with the gun? Or does it really make a difference? Thanks.

on a 22 rifle i doubt it would really make a difference.but you will love it,makes for lots of fun.

garandfan: I used the 1" weaver on my 10-22 that way if you decide later that you don't want that sight on your 10-22 you can put it on some thing else , don't limit yourself by going with the 22 rail 0 -

Weaver is more stable and versitile, however on a 22, just stay cheap and get the plain old 22rail, it will work just fine. But if its only a few dollars more, I'd go with weaver.

Ditto on the weaver! You can always re mount the scope elsewhere.

Save the receipt! Some of the BSA red dots mount to a Weaver rail with notches or slots in it. The standard Weaver rail for the 10/22 has a notch in the front and a notch in the back. The BSA red dot that I had was to short to meet one of the notches. I had to file an extra notch in the rail for the red dot to fit. The other solution would be to get an accessory type weaver rail with multiple slots. The standard Weaver rail is $10 or less, the accessory rail from other companies are around $30.
Bottom line, check for fit.0
