Nickel plated Pythons were discontinued in 1985. This included the high polished and the satin, which was called "ColtGuard" or "Electroless" nickel. As to when they began plating in nickel, I am not sure, but I have a NIB 4 inch Polished Nickel Python that was manufactured in 1978. It's possible they began earlier than that.

The Python is first shown as being available in nickel finish in the 1961 catalog. RP has stated the last year for nickel finish is 1985, which I have not verified, but it sounds about right because true stainless Pythons appeared about that time.
