Help scope experts. Need advice on Scope problem.
Its me again, about the burris fullfield. I'm reposting to get as many opinions as possible. I loosened the variable dial "hex screw" on my scope, not thinking that would hurt anything. I was told I may have let the gas out of inside. 1} What is the probability of that happening from doing such. And, 2) I assume this will not affect accuracy of scope, am I right there? And, I cannot send to Burris, as I will be hunting with it in 2 weeks. So, If I indeed let gas out, The scope should still be usable, as long as I don't bring it indoors and warm it up, keeping it in my hunting vehicle to help prevent internal fog-up, Does anybody think that is an accurate game plan?? I could then send it after season. I'm hoping somebody will tell me I can use it with a fair degree of confidence for 1 month . P.S. I have a backup rifle but I want to use my Good one. Lets hear everybodys opinion, sorry for reposting but I'm getting all freaked out, 15 days away from my trip to Montana.....thanks, RED

I would consider getting another scope before your trip or getting more comfortable with your backup rifle.

At this point in time I'd say it would be appropriate to ask yourself, 'what is my back up gun for?', and 'just which one am I more comfortable with, the one with a potential scope problem or my back up?' If you arent confident, you are screwed, no matter what anyone tells you about the scope, and it sounds to me as if you arent confident. Now if you think the back up gun is truly deserving of the term back up gun, this would be a good time to break that puppy out of the gun rack and put it to good use. Remember, dont have your back up gun be one you arent as confident in as the favorite game getter. I sure wouldnt chance an awesome Montana hunt, which I've not yet had the opportunity to go on, to a fogged up scope.

robsguns makes a good point. Now if you really want tot know if the gas is gone, test it! Put it in the freezer, then go turn on a hot shower, take it into the bathroom after 15 minutes in the freezer, if it fogs up, you lost the gas, if not, it's OK. I would prepare to shoot my backup rifle however. Now, you can always switch the scopes quickly and take the rifle you want.

Thanks for the input guys, and keep em coming. I must add, I'm driving back home to MT/ND not flying. So I was planning on taking both rifles anyway. So someone tell me this answer, is it safe to assume this scope is in no way defected in accuracy??? just fogging? If that is it, I will plan on shooting my Fullfield, and if it fogs up I'll get my old 6x fired up. Also, Mabeye I should Email Burris and ask them if Loosening that screw will DEFINATELY let out the gas. Cause mabeye......I haven't hurt anything..... My backup rifle is a 1965 Model 70 WIN 30-06 with a straight 6 burris, my main rifle is 7MM BDL with that new fullfield on top. 0 -
Good Luck on your hunt, as for the scope I would either send it to Burris or replace it with a Leupold. I'm sorry I'm just a little pro Leupold. But seriously I would hunt with your back up rifle as you will alway's have doubt about the rifle and if your 06 is sighted in and you have confidence in it, (as you should) The 06 has taken practically every big game animal in North America. I emailed Burris and told them everything. He said the same as Someone else said (sorry can't remember who) about putting it in freezer for an hour , than taking it out and youll know if it lost its gas. He also said it also depended on how long the screw was out/humidity levels etc.. He said Regardless of how it works send it to Burris after season and they will re-purge it and adjust the screw to proper tightness.....He didn't say a thing about any charge either. So, I guess I'm planning on hunting with it, unless it starts to fog up, then I will switch. I'm impressed with them telling me to send it in , and not mentioning a fee or something. 0 -
Hard & fast test. This will make it leak if it can.
Put in refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Fill kitchen sink, or bucket with hot water.
Stick scope in hot(hot) water.
Observe bubbles, some will just be trapped air-they will quickly stop.
But, if a stream (like scuba diving)starts, and is steady, stop.
It leaks.
Send it to Larry's attention at Burris. Don't downgrade to a Leupold.
There are differences.

Howdy Fellers, Well, I did it, I put it in the Deep Freeze....(The whole darn gun! Chuckle) For 1 full hour. It was slightly humid here last night I might add. I took it out and let it stand . It frosted up something fierce. Finally (tick tock) it adjusted to room temerature, I wiped all the water and leftover frost off and the scope was Clear as a bell. I checked it this morning and it was still crystal clear. I'm gonna hunt with it this year, and don't forsee a problem. I will then send it to Burris to double check. Thanks again everyone for helping me out with your comments. That should have fogged it up, don't ya'all think??? redches 0
