8X56R Reloading
Awhile back I posted about reloading for my Styer 8X56R. I received lots of advice. I have it printed for safe keeping.
I just bought a set of Lee dies, I am not sure if thay are the right ones though. Thay are 8X56R Hungarian. Thay do state that you use a .329 bullet.
I was thinking of useing 8X54R brass. And fire forming it.
What else will I need to reload now. And has anybody found the bullets I will need?

The dies are the ones you need. Regarding fireforming, I think you are refering to 7.62X54R Mosin Nagant Brass, which works fine, though the neck is a bit short and will probably never allow superb accuracy. I kinda have a feeling Sellier and Bellot or PRVI partisan or some other fringe "almost" mainstream commercial company will start offering this brass and/or loaded ammo sooner or later. We can hope. Bertram does offer it in proper dimensions but is pricey.
Regarding bullets, Lee has a sizer die that reduces .338 bullets to proper size. I am skeptical of this as it merely sizes, it does not swage, which could result in loose cores and poor accuracy. Some users have had good luck with it, others not. For the price though, it is worth a try. Otherwise, try www.buffaloarms.com for bullets, though they too, are a bit pricey. I cast my own, personally. Still playing around though, no loads worth sharing yet.

I have a great Styer that eats 8x56R and it's hard to find.

Cases are available from Bertram at $31.99 a box. .329 diameter bullets in weights of 200,230 and 250 grains are available in boxes of 50 from Custom Jacketed Bullets. Order both bullets and brass from Huntington P.O.Box 991 601 Oro Dam Blvd. Oroville CA 95966-(530)534-1210. One load that has worked for me is the 230 grain bullet loaded over 42 grains of IMR-3031 in reformed 7.62X54R Russian cases. The primer was CCI-200. This load about duplicates factory ballistics. 0 -

.329 Dia. 210 Grs. soft point. Loaded in Bertram brass over 45.0 grs. IMR-3031 and CCI-200 primers. My Styer loves them.

The Bertram brass sounds good. But how many are in a box? It would be alot easyer than fire forming.
Are the DKT allready loaded or is it just the supplies?
Do these places have web sites?

The bertram brass is boxes of 20- OUCH... Imported from Australia. Before I bought them I would get 5 boxes of S+B 7.62x54 russian at $8/20rds and a beater Moisin nagant for $60-70 to burn the rounds off in. for $100 you have a supply of brass and a spare rifle to boot. The S+B brass is 1/16" longer than the Lapua and Norma brass which I have for the 7.62X54. This would make up most of the missing 2mm. Cheaper Than Dirt has the ammo for 7.95 per box. The rifles are available at any gun show or on GB for a song.

The DKT are just the bullets, come 50 to the box and are about $24.00 a box.

Tools (1) I've not been overwhelmed by the quality of the Bertram brass I've used . . . especially not at the price! None in this caliber, however. (2) There is a bunch of surplus 8x56R on the market now, and has been for about five years. Think someone found a warehouse full after the Curtain came down. It's all 60+ years old & Nazi marked, but if it shoots, there's another possibility. 0 -
