MAC 90 info needed
I need to know if my Norinco MAC 90 is considered pre- or post ban. It is made by Norinco in China. It has a underfolding stock and is chambered in 7.62 x 39. It appeares to have had a bayonet lug but looks like is was removed. I am not sure of this. It also has a flash hider. I am not fimaliar with MAC 90/AK47s. I received this gun through a trade and am wondering if I got a good deal or ripped off. Any info would be a great help and if anyone has a estimated value that would also help. Thanks in advance for the help.
Additional info.. It came with 4 30 round mags and is realy good shape. It has some wear from where the underfolding stock rubs when folded.

Titans: First, welcome to the forum! You didnt say what you traded for the Norinco, so its hard to tell if you got a good deal or not.
It sounds like you have a pre-ban gun if it uses 30rnd mags, and has a folding stock. I could be wrong, but I think the post-ban guns were made to only accept low-cap magazines.0 -

Sorry to tell you but, MAK-90 means "Modified AK 1990" which is what the Chinese imported after the 1989 Bush executive order (ban) on AK style firearms, the name alone signifies it is a Post-Ban gun. Unfortunately, with the early MAK-90's and a few other models there was a lot of "retro-fitting" done as people were un-aware or didn't care about the new law; (ie) pistol-grips and folding stocks and flash-hiders ... with the very early models this was very easy as the modifications to get them into the country were only done half-a$$ed, threads were not completely removed from barrels or the flash hider was cut down to a thread protector then spot welded into place(and sometimes the weld didn't penetrate), thumbhole stocks covered the hole in the stock where a folding stock was intended to be installed ... just remove the stock and buy a folding stock/pistol grip kit ... take a look at the post "AK-47/MAK-90 What's different" here: http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=33511
Alas, a rose by any other name is still a rose ... and a MAK-90 is a Modified AK 1990; that makes them post-ban ... all of them.
