There is a way to release it without removing the trigger. I have a 96 Mauser and there is a little hole towards the back of the magazine floor plate. This hole is near the trigger. You push in on that with a military bullet and then push the plate towards the front and it pops out. Maybe yours has the same arrangement.
Oops, I meant push the plate back, towards the trigger.

Allen thanks..........but the trigger guard and magazine floor plate are all one piece. First one I've seen like this.

Well, with the good engineering the Krauts did on the '96, I can't imagine they weren't doing some good engineering on its replacement, the '98. Is this an original military rifle? What country? I have a Mauser built as a sporter at the Oberndorf works in the 1960s that has a hinged floor plate, really elegant. There has got to be some kind of release for yours.

It's an original Mauser 98 (DOU 43 built in Czeck). It has all the Waffenamp markings and FP's. The trigger guard is oversize for use with heavy gloves.

I just don't want to loose any springs or trigger parts if I remove the whole thing, but since it's one piece, I have no choice.

I'll let you know what happens, haha.

The two screws you are talking about hold the entire rifle together. Take them out and the triggerguard and floorplate assembly should come straight out the bottom. The only spring involved will be the magazine spring. the trigger will stay attached to the action.
