First time gun purchase.
I was basically raised around guns. My father taught me how to shoot and reload my own ammunition. And now I am old enough to purchase my own rifle. when I was in the DCM I shot a few competitions with a Colt AR15 and I loved it compared to other rifles and I am shopping around looking at the local laws for my state on the purchase and possession of this weapon (State is NC) some of the sites I visited are either outdated or im more lost then i thought. I was just wondering if it would be legal for me to purchase and own a Colt AR15 semiautomatic rifle in North Carolina (I am a civilian and I am not of law enforcement)does this require any special permits? I'd appreciate any answers or advice you all have to offer or links that might clear this up for me.

Welcome JERM,
The company I used to work for transferred me to Greensboro, NC a couple of years ago, I sure saw a lot of AR-15 variants on the gun store display racks for sale, so I'd say yes, but finding a good, reputable (SMALL, LOCAL) gun dealer is probably your first course of action, they will advise you on your local laws, and get you set up with what you want.

Thanks for the advice I will take a trip to the Colonial Gun Shop we have here you should check it out if your ever in the neighborhood I remember seeing alot of colt rifles on there shelves. Reason I got so confused is I was reading the gun control bill that bill clinton
signed in 94 preventing possesion of assault weapons such as
ar15s (which are classified as assault weapons according to the bill)
but then I ran into another site that said it was legal to possess

Maggiethecat, He's just outside of Durahm! Stopped in the colonial gun shop many, many times, good guys, very helpful, and good prices, and they stock colt AR-15's
JERM, I used to park my trucks at the BP by the truckstop on up the road from there, Hillsborough, NC I believe it was, Big green cherrypickers if'n you remember it, that was 1999 to early 2001 -Ralph
