According to the Standard Catalogue of Firearms...Herters is/was an importer and retailer of European made firearms....Active until approx 1980..
Manufactured in England is a J, while the ones manufactured in Yugoslavia start with a U...
The J-9 was manufactured in England
    The U-9 .... Yugoslavia..

This book does not have high values listed for any of Herters firearms...for example the U-9 Presentation or Supreme, with sling swivels, Monte Carlo style stock with checkering only lists at 225 in very good condition...

There is a small blurb in the Blue Book about Herters, but doesnt list any values, and states no collector value...

    Hope this helps

Herter's were the Cabella's of their day. Mostly 50's and 60's. Rifles sell for up to $295. though some are relatively rare, there is little collector value to date. There were also other models not usually shown in the value books. Mine is an XJ-3. They were stocked on a variety of stocks, classic, thumb-hole and Monte Carlo. The action is likely a 98 Mauser. Fine rifle, enjoy it!

herters is alive and well, though smaller then in there prime. there seems to be a buzz surrounding herters collectables, or anything with the herters name on it right now. i would add abot 15% to blue book estimates from what i have seen at the last few gun shows. they are a quality rifle.

Alive and well, having been sold. It is no longer the old family company.

Thanks guys. I do shoot it and enjoy it. I'm getting a Ruger .223 Ackley from my partner that we cronoed at 3650 with 55 gr bullets. It's a one-holer. Might not keep the Herter's, unless it will increase in value. Then my grandson will probably get it.
