Sight Picture XD V10 .40 cal
I just cannot say enough mice things about the help/opinions offered here and by gosh the price is right!!!
I shot my new Springfield Armory XD V10 in 40 cal and it was very gengtle and easy to point the second shot accurately.
However one thing I never anticipated nor even thought about was the deteroiorating sight picture. The longer I shot - the worse it got. The nice white dot on the front sight that I started out with became a sooty smudge after a box of ammo and at the end of the session it did not show up well at all. I guess this may be a fault with all ported pistols but I do not have experience with any other.
Any suggestions? A night site on the front? Any pretreatment that would make clean up easier?
Perhaps in a prolonged gunfight I could call a time out for sight cleaning - Ha Ha!

U might try some compensator spray. I forgot the brand, but it was available thru dillion precission or midway. I think it was Carter's Compensator Spray, but not sure. However a change in ammo may also help.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

The compensator spray makes it easier to clean but a smudged front sight is a fact of life for a comped gun. Here is a trick that I have used that helps. Using some epoxy appliance white paint and a toothpick slowly build up the front dot until it has a convex shape. The fouling will still happen but a quick swipe with a patch(or sleeve or finger)cleans it quickly.
