S&W Commerative Revolver
Say.....I don't get to start a new thread too often, 'cause happily I don't have too many problems! Sometimes, though, they seek you out; and yesterday a friend called me up and related the following: His son is a retired Oregon State Trooper who acquired an S&W Oregon State Police Commerative revolver when he was active (now retired). He wants a value for it because he wants to turn it into a pre-'64 Winchester Model 1894 .30-30. No special reason, except that he's always had a hankering to own one. I tried to help him to the extent of looking in the Blue Book, but found scant assistance as there have been too many commerative issues to list. Also, as the book points out, such a commerative is usually worth more in the State of issue than elsewhere in the U.S. of A. Naturally, since this is a friend-of-a-friend deal, the friend doesn't know the condition for certain, but we speculate that it is N.I.B. So, what I need here is for S&W Man or some other worthy to step forward with a value. I have no interest in this deal myself, so if one of you gents is an S&W collector and has a niceish .30-30 to trade, plus or minus a little, I'll point you in the right direction. Muchas gracias.

Cant find one for Oregon State Police but the Standard Catalog of Firearms lists the commemorative for the Georgia State Police as having an original retail value of 405.00.. with only 802 mfg...I imagine the one for Oregon is the same.. the 125 anniversary edition of S%W is listed as a 350 retail value with only 10,000 mfg.....
The Blue book of gun values lists the anniversary edition as having a value of 450 at 100% .. issue price at 350.. the texas ranger comm is listed at a value of 595 at 100% with issue price of 250...
I could not find the exact original of the comm your freind has.. It will depend on how many were mfg.. and condition.. this might give him a guide line..

Thank you, BlackRoses--I had a feeling of about $450, so I think that your guesstimate is about right. I had a 6" Mod. 19 Commemerative from the agency I used to work for which set me back $325; but which I eventually sold NIB for $1,200. This was probably a fluke though, as I see one now listed for $450 with condition not specified. Thanks again. 0 -
Over on "another" site, abbreviated GA, there are currently two (2) listed, same condition -- $525 for one; $800 for the other. The models I have been following (Missouri SHP and Texas Ranger Commemorative revolvers w/knife) are being listed at about $650 -- no takers, mind you, but that's the listing price -- Hope this helps, too.
