SS109 .223 Radway experiences ?

Anyone have a strong opinion about RG SS109 ammunition,
specifically as related to accuracy ? I am not concerned
with penetration nor very long range shooting.

    I'VE ONLY SHOT ONE LOT OF THIS BUT IT WAS VERY ACCURATE AND RELIABLE.

    Radway, oh yea, I like it. Thru my Colt CAR-A3 scope, shooting prone with a bipod on the ground, I recall getting about a 4-6" groups at 300yds with it. Thats not bad for military ammo.

    If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

    Yep, just looked it up, steel core. It will shoot great,....for a while. Then as it eats up the rifling at in increased rate, it as well as all other ammo, will cease to shoot well. That's what AP ammo is famous for. That is of course, after several thousand rounds. Now, it may not say AP on the add, but steel core is steel core, just the same. Just something to keep in mind.

    I looked it up and verified... the "steel core" is a... steel core, typically surrounded by a copper jacket. Read: the steel core never touches the barrel. It doesn't fragment worth a darn, however, it's not supposed to.

    Regardless, my concern is whether the best one could hope for is 2 MOA or so.

    IMI also makes a lead core version of the SS109 & I have loaded about a 1000 rounds. It shoots as good as the steel core & certainly expands better. rg
