Grips for Colt 1873 Clone
Have the Pietta 45 Long Colt (1873 Colt clone) and am looking for a pair of new grips for it. The lower back of the frame has a "stud" and my Ruger grips won't go on. Is it possible to use any grip that fits the 1873 Colt itself?

Mr. Pig is correct. I've never seen a SAA with stocks that will interchange with another...there is work involved here. This is why you pay the custom shop premium. If you simply want to experiment try Ajax grips @www.AJAXGRIPS.com. or 214-630-8893. They sell plastic stocks for SAA for around $35 and wood stocks for a little more. At those prices you can cut and sand to your hearts content and then after you've found what works (or more likely does not) go out and get the stocks which you really want. I feel that factory Colt SAA stocks are simply too costly to fool around with. Let an experienced gunsmith do the installation if you go that route.
