IVER JOHNSON CO. LEATHER?
Howdy,
i won an auction on this site for an iver johnson 380 holster. i was thinking it was for my iver johnson pony 380. well, it turns out to be an early (1900-1920's era by design and age of leather) holster for a 380. on the back, in a horizontal oval, it is stamped into the leather IVER JOHNSON CO. BOSTON. 1&1/2" below that it is stamped 1221 and about 1" below that is stamped 380. it is sort of a rounded rectangular leather holster with the slot for what appears to me to be a 1903 or 1908 colt 380 size pistol. just below and left of that is another slot for an extra mag. there is also a small belt loop attached by two brass screws/brads that go thru to the front of the holster. there, it looks as though these are spaced far enough apart for a grip frame to fit without rubbing the brass. i can't find anything anywhere about IJ making leather goods. maybe it was about the same time they were making bicycles and their seats. anybody got any info at all? please reply this forum or to bullitbb@hotmail.com -Thank you.>bob

I think your right about the holster, My dad has an Iver Johnson That he bought back in 1925. I remember the story about Iver Johnson he told me. the part that is fuzzy in my little brain is if they were manufacturing leather holsters at the same time like you said.
Don't quote me on that. but I do have to ask does your .380
feel like it has about a 50lb trigger pull? always kid my dad about that!0 -
iver johnson had a sporting goods store in boston.i just picked up a catalog from the early 1900's for it. it is probably 100 pages long and has all kinds of sporting goods.they probably just bought the leather and stamped their name on it. 0
