USP Reliability
Alright, so everybody under the sun knows a Glock is reliable. But how does a USP measure up? I've never had any problems with mine, but how do they perform under extreme conditions like snow, water, dirt, sand, etc.? I was just curious and wanted to see if anybody had been lucky ( unlucky? ) enough to have experience with this.

The HK USP is a great firearm,the only reasom I dint own one is I think their priced wat to High.

I have a USP 45 and have NEVER had a problem with it. It's my nightstand gun. I have put through just about every type of ammo: ball, hollowpoint, prefragmented, etc., never a failure to feed or extract.
However, don't dry fire it with the slide off. I was dumb enough to do that to "work in a drop of oil after cleaning" and ended up with about 10 loose parts in my hand. I sent it back to HK and they fixed it overnight at no charge. Now I know better.

I have the USP compact .45 var 1 with nitesights. I absolutely love it. Not a single hitch.
I purchased it as a replacement for my Glock 29 as my CCW. The glock was cool, but during concealed carry, the glock mags were poping loose...the mag button was too sensitive.
The mag release is super on the USP....not more loose mags.
I was at the range withfirend who has a Glock 30 .45. My HK consistantly outshot the Glock.

they are completely reliable, accurate, durable, and they point naturally. Some folks would say that those qualities make them worth every penny of the "priced way too high" that some Ruger fans complain about. 0 -
they are the greatest pistols out there. I own four and three Glocks. I love my Glocks, but they suck compared to my H&K's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to stick my neck on the chopping block for all of you. I say that when you look at that 'grade' of handgun (SIG,H&K,Glock, quality 1911 etc.) there is no real difference in quality or reliablility. Each has its own attributes and shortcomings. Each has its own supporters and detractors and they are adamant about their beliefs.
If it fits and you are happy with it, it is right for you.

HK makes great stuff; my gripes on the USP are:
1. Doesn't feel right; my local gunshop owner has the same perception; the Glock is much better in this regard. Virtually nothing you can do if you don't like the way it feels.
2. Making variant changes is an added cost/possible shop time procedure--you otherwise order the gun w. variant and wait until it shows up. Note that you might not find a variant tenable if you can't actually try it out beforehand. Again I think the Glock took a unique middle ground and it works for a whole lot of folks.
3. I see more than a few USPs show up used; their owners end up buying Glocks(!) or moving up to high grade 1911s.
FWIW, I like the USP; it lacks some ergonomics but is otherwise a good shooter. Unlike HK, I place ergonomics on a higher level.

Bought a Glock 29 10mm. Got Trijcon nitesites and a lasermax internal laser for it. Bought 2 extra mags, and have the pearce finger groove mag bottoms on all the mags. Comfort is good. I put about 600rnds through, no problems.
Unfortunately, the mag release is to senstive. When concealed inside the pants, in front...the mags were almost always popped loose.
The Glock is currently at a local gun shop on consignment. Great gun, accurate...but the mag problem pissed me off.
Bought a Springfield Armory Ultra Compact V-10 stainless .45, Carried it all of 2 times...put 50 rounds through it....sold it.
I have the HK USP compact var1 .45 with nite sights. Most of the USP are var1. For right handed person, it fits the bill. Var1 = SA, DA, Decock, and Cocked & Locked. I find the grip to be comfortable. The mag retention and release perfect for my application. The var1 suits me perfectly. It out-shoots a Glock 30...hands down.
I like the HK more than the Glock.
I checked out the Walther P99...but I dislike the trigger feel. I probably looked at them 4 or 5 time...they just never moved me.
I also checked out the SIGs. They look like nice pieces. The quality seems good. The SIGs are on the heavy side. I am sure they are accurate and reliable. I have yet to purchase a Sig, maybe in the future. The SIG is most likely better than the Glock.
I really like my HK. I have no problem with the price....especially since it will probably be the one weapon I call upon in dire need. Granted I would rather my Bushmaster with the Beta C mag, but it all reality, if something were to happen, my CCW would be the weapon of use.
As for tuned up 1911s. There sweet, and I wouldn't mind having one. I personally think a Les Baer and Wilson Combat are way over priced. 800.00 for a new production 1911 accuratized, tuned, ect would be a Fair price. Wilson's are like 1600....what a rip. I am not saying they do not perform like champs...I just think they are over priced...especially for a 1911.
The 1911 is like the Chevy 350 in the auto industry....how much easier and simple can you get....to fix and modify.
