AK side rail scope mount
Hi all,
The gun in question is a Mitchell M-90 .308 Yugo AK type.
I am going to mount a scope to this gun and have two different mounts that I can use. These mounts use the side rail mounting system on the gun.
One mount made by K-Var (manufactured in the U.S.), this mount positions the scope basically over the barrel's centerline, it might be off center a 1/16".
The other mount I have is made my I.O.R. in Romania, this mount actually positions the scope to the left side of the centerline of the barrel about a 1/2". This company as I was told designed the mounts for Zastava which is the manufacture of the gun.
The question I have is what is the purpose of having the scope positioned to the left of center of the barrel. I would think it should be over the center.

The offset scope would be a benefit to underfolder AK models because the broad stock makes it hard to get in back of the rear sight.
Offset sights were used on BRNO and BREN light machineguns because the magazines were mounted on top, center of the guns. They worked out fine.0
