Leupold VS BURRIS..................
What is everyone's opinion on Leupold scopes vs Burris scopes. I have looked throug both, and like Burris. Now I've never owned a Leupold either, but am a recent Burris man. First, an older Burris 6x, now another newer Fullfield. I'll tell ya, that old 6x STAYS on. And now I put the new 3x9 on my 7MM Mag. Will it "stay on" like my staraight 6???

Probably get smeared for this, but I think Leupolds are way over rated, especially for the prices you have to pay for them. Years ago when shooting handgun silhouettes I had a friend who could not keep a Leupold on his 44 mag. Ruger Super Blackhawk, he had six of them that sounded like baby rattles. Sold him a 3x Burris and it was still on the gun when he quit shooting 3 years later. Leupold claims they are American made, but their lens come from overseas, Japan, I think. Not that it makes much difference, the Japs have some pretty good stuff. But to me, it seems a little on the side of false advertising. I also think Burris has a tougher, more durable scope and holds adjustments better. Just my 2 cents. 0 -
Check out the other brands too. Some cheap ones may be the best! 0 -
I beleive burris to be of at least equal quality to leupold. The place where leupold got it's name and fame, is NOT FROM CONSUMER GRADE OPTICS. They gained their reputation for superb performance from their TACTICAL products. They do make some of the finest long range/tactical scopes in the world. Price a MK IV leupold and you will see the difference. The vari X III I had, was, IMHO, slightly underperforming next to my Burris signature, and the burris was $150 less. So I traded the Vari X III for 8 boxes of match 308 and a Bushnell 6-18x scope and rings. just my .02
A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.0 -
What JustC said. I like Leupolds a bit better than JustC, but we agree that Burris is as good or better for less $$.
I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.
