For those of you that use a chronograph, what is your average devation "sp" on handloads? This is for rifles of varing cals.

  Although my chrony quit working two years ago, I kept the records for the .243 and the 300 H&H mag.
  Considering the accuracy of the chrony + or - %rate, the average seems to be- 5.8% for the .243- 3% being the lowest and 8% being the highest.
  (6.9% for the 300H&H- 4% the lowest and 8.5% the highest.)
  I load each round by hand on a single press when I want the best accuracy and others I do not. I do not have the record of how I reloaded for this info. I gave you.

  Daddo,Robsguns thanks for the reply. I have a new chrony chrono and was wondering what kind of velocity spread was common with handloads. I currently run 2 rockchuckers and reload for 243,6mm,6mm ppc, 30-06, 300 wsm,308,7mm mag, 25-06 well the list is long Anyway I am very careful with all steps involved, I just didn't have any knowledge as to the expected deviation on a batch of loads.   I use a clothes pin to hold a stiff piece of paper with an aiming point high enough so I don't hit the machinery. I think you will find that some of the published velocities are a little optomistic.

  THE NUMBER YOU SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR IS STANDARD DEVIATION (SD). THIS IS THE STANDARD DEVIATION FROM THE AVERAGE VELOCITY YOU CAN EXPECT FROM EACH SHOT. SINGLE DIGITS # ARE BEST (1-9) LOW TWO DIGIT SD'S ARE OK, ANYTHING OVER ABOUT 30 AND YOU START TO GET VERTICAL STRINGING ARE EXTENDED YARDAGE.
