m1 carbine stock question
I was just at cheaper than dirt and the website says the synthetic stocks wont fir my universal - is the universal different from the military as far as dimensions??

I have a M1 Carbine with a folding stock, but it's not the one that folds to the side. This one folds underneath and the butt pad folds flat against the stock. The gun was made by GM and I'm trying to get a value for it, but I'm having a hard time finding any with this type of folding stock. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, it is, Robert. Briefly, after W.W.II (the big one) two companies, Plainfield Machine Corp. and Universal Arms Corp., began assembling M1 Carbines from newly manufactured receivers and surplus parts. Eventually, as the parts supply began to dry up, the companies were forced to produce this and that part until, near the end, they were making the entire gun. Along the way Universal modified their design several times for ease of production until it was no longer interchangeable with the original. Most parts for the Universal version are still available from Numrich Gun Parts Corp.; but the two companies, Universal and Plainfield, are long gone. Universal is considered by many to be the poorer gun of the two; and neither are considered as good as the original G.I. version. 0
