Another Model 70 Question

I acquired a pre-64 in 30-06 with beautiful wood and a bright, shiny bore (with excellent rifling). My concern is that the receiver appears to be parkerized while the barrel is blued. Is this indicative of a problem? A mismatched rifle? It is a '53 production. Thanks, Bill

  i have a model 70 westerner post 64 in .270 that is as you describe yours the action looks like it has been parkerized the barrel looks blued i got this gun as new. i think it has to do with blueing of different kind of metalthat the action is made out of vs the metal the barrel is made out of. doc

  The pre 64 I have in 300 H&H mag. has bluing on the reciever and barrel. You might see if the number on the barrel matches that of the reciever-(you may need to remove the barrel). Or find the Winchester 70 website to get details. This doesn't sound right in you situation.

  The original Pre 64 Model 70's had an aluminum oxide bead blasted finish on the receivers. If the barrel and receiver have the same blued finish it has been redone.

  Yes- my mod. 70 was redone in Japan during the war, as it was ingraved by the Emporers ingraver and then reblued. I see the light now.
  This is fact and the gun is beautiful.
